Engineering context
A liquid-cooled rack must separate IT and facility loops while managing flow distribution, temperature control and fault protection. Without a clear CDU boundary, selection, ownership and acceptance become ambiguous.
Principle
A CDU is the interface and control node for the liquid-cooling system. Pumps, heat exchangers, filtration, sensors and controls manage the fluid and heat conditions between facility and IT loops.

With stable, good-quality facility water, choose L2L for efficiency. Without facility water, L2A starts today and can be upgraded later.
Depends on capacity and the facility-water temperature window. We size primary flow from the approach temperature so the plant is not undersized.
No. Standard N+1 pump redundancy auto-switches on failure; N+N is available for higher availability.
Use an L2A CDU as a transition: heat goes to room air or outdoor rejection. Upgrade to L2L smoothly once facility water arrives.
